St. Peter's: The College is named after Peter the Apostle. The name of St Peter is synonymous in the Christian Church with leadership, faith and courage. These fundamental qualities were important in choosing the name of 'St Peter's' for the College. They are qualities which will be nurtured and fostered among the students. Co-incidentally, the closest local Anglican community to the College is St Peter's at Tomakin. Anglican College: The name Anglican College indicates that the school is a Christian educational institution, and in particular an Anglican school. As the College is located on the south coast of New South Wales, it follows that the College is under the authority of the Bishop and the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. Natural Environment: The background to the crest symbolises the natural coastal beauty of the Broulee region. It portrays the interaction of the ocean, the beach, the local ranges and Broulee Island. The dark blue represents the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea next to which Broulee is located. The yellow represents both the sand of the local beaches and the sand upon which Broulee and the College are situated. The green segments represent Broulee Headland, Broulee Island, the local ranges as well as the flora of the surrounding Eurobodalla region. The Boat: The classic open fishing boat is still a familiar sight on Broulee's beaches and symbolises the establishment of the College in a coastal environment. The boat is also highly symbolic of the boat used by Peter the fisherman on the Sea of Galilee from where he was called to follow Christ. The Mast: The mast of the boat has been shaped in the form of a Cross and located centrally within the crest. Its presence and central location signify the centrality of the Cross to the Christian faith. The Cross also represents the major role of the Anglican Church within the College. In particular, it symbolises the leadership the Bishop of the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn has provided in establishing, fostering and overseeing the College. That commitment is spelt out in an 'Ethos Statement' prepared by the Diocese and applying to all Anglican schools in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. The motto of St Peter's Anglican College is FAITH, COURAGE, EXCELLENCE. This embraces the College philosophy of providing an outstanding educational service for the students of the south coast region. In FAITH the College provides an opportunity for students and their families to journey in the Christian, and more particularly the Anglican, faith so that spirituality, values and beliefs found in that faith are encouraged throughout life. In COURAGE the College fosters not only the development of a strong moral character and the quality of mind to meet the challenges of life, but also the self belief to stand by those values and to have the courage to strive to attain a student's full potential. In EXCELLENCE the College delivers outstanding achievement by its students and staff across a broad range of academic subjects and range of co- curricular activities. The College aims to achieve excellence in all that it does and to inspire the students to achieve excellence in all that they undertake.
