St Peter's takes the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge to Canberra On Wednesday July 22nd a team of 32 St Peter's students went to Canberra to compete in the National Rock Eisteddfod Challenge. What is Rock Eisteddfod? Teams as small as 10 or as large as 140 students plan an eight-minute performance based on a theme of their choice and set it to contemporary commercially available music. Students, teachers and entire communities work together over a period of months planning and rehearsing, before competing against other schools at events in a 100% drug and alcohol free environment. St Peter's theme St Peter's tackled the theme of 'Hope Springs Eternal'. "Hope Springs Eternal" began in response to the flood of hopelessness we witness in the media. It seems so easy to forget about the things that keep us going when we are flooded with despair, poverty, injustice, environmental deterioration and violence. These things keep us up at night and keep us looking for ways for change. St Peter's performance follows the dreams and nightmares of a boy, who battles with the images that haunt him in his sleep. He believes that one person can make a difference, for Hope Springs Eternal. Results Points are awarded for different categories. If a team scores 8 out of a possible 10 they are awarded an achievement award. If a team scores the highest points for a category they receive an excellence plaque. We won three achievement awards - Costuming: Character, Stage Use, Creative Innovation (environmental award) We also won four excellence awards - Stage Crew, Concept, Choreography, Performance Skill Unfortunately our collective points left us in third position with Canberra veterans Calwell and Daramalan taking out first and second. However, we were not disappointed and have received wonderful feed back form the parents and they are very proud of their children and what they achieved. Many thanks to parents Glenda Phin who did hair and make up, Damien Scholtz, Peter Forsyth and Lis Brandson for their work backstage and to Kirsty Scholtz who choreographed the whole routine and worked on costumes. Sets and costumes were created by Chris Forsyth
